10-Week Wellness Challenge Update & A Giveaway

I can’t believe that we are almost finished with the 10-Week Wellness Challenge!  It seems like only yesterday that The Iowa Food & Family Project invited me to join their team!  I was so excited when they did and I had such high hopes of blowing it out of the water this year!  HA!  Well, then life happened!Wellness Challenge

I’ve struggled with being healthy for the majority of my adult life!  I’m, what I call myself, a coping anorexic!  If you look at me today you wouldn’t guess that to be the case, but it’s true!!  You see,  being healthy has several different definitions.  Obtaining a healthy lifestyle depends on your own personal situation.  For me, being healthy is finding a balance with my eating and exercise.  All of this, along with “life” during the 10-Week Wellness Challenge has gotten me to these realizations:

  • Good intentions only go so far!

Last year I placed 1st on the IFFP team in activity minutes!  I had the intentions of doing so again.  Well, let’s just say that life happened and in a few instances, I was lazy.  So, nope, not placing first this year!  While I had the best of intentions, if I don’t turn those intentions into actions, my goal of a healthier lifestyle won’t occur!

  • It’s all about balance!

Something I constantly have to work on is balance!  It’s easy for me to sway one direction or the other when it comes to eating!  So, while I love to embark in the 21 Day Fix and focus on eating clean, I also know that it’s easy for me to bury myself  in extreme eating.  I often follow the theory of eating clean, but am also working to balance my life!  Not only work/play, but also clean/non-clean eating!

  • Trying to be healthy is better than nothing!

One comes to a point in their life that they realize that trying and getting halfway there (to a healthy lifestyle) is better than nothing!  While I was often eating clean during the day while participating in the 10-Week Wellness challenge, I attended basketball games at night, met friends for dinner, and had date-nights (and vacation) with my husband.  Those times resulted in me usually not eating clean!  I struggle with beating myself up over that!  It’s easy for me to do, however, in the last 9 weeks, I’ve come to realize that any efforts I make to lead a healthy lifestyle is better than none at all! (Thankfully, my Garmin Vivofit helps me stay on track by telling me when I’ve sat too long and need to get up and move!)

  • The people at the Iowa Food & Family Project rock!

For the second year in a row I’ve been blessed to be on their team for the 10-Week Wellness Challenge and for the second year in a row they have given me the opportunity to give away some outstanding prizes to my readers!  So, what’s up for grabs this time?  How about a $25 to Scheels?! What better way to get motivated to move and become more active than with a gift card to buy some new shoes or workout clothes?!  Get entered below!

  1. Thanks for being honest! I am a “coping fat person”. I have “watched my weight” and been on diets for over 40 years So I have decided- enough! I try to be mindful, and as apart of that I say grace or give thanks for my food before I eat anything. I also do not eat between meals. Thats all I am doing now. Not interested in clean eating-not sure what that really means and as you said things like that can get me off track too. So I think you did great!

    1. LOL! Oh lady! I love your humor and your honesty! We definitely all have struggles and it’s all how you deal with them! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I understand when “life” takes control and you aren’t able to give living a healthy lifestyle your all. For me, right now, nursing is my top priority and a top concern. I have always made an effort and goal to nurse my kids for at least a year and because of that, I have given myself a short window during the day (and maybe an excuse…) to workout so I’m not interfering with nursing or my milk supply. Anyways, it’ll be bittersweet when my nursing days end, but I’m going to have a new priority and that is concentrating on me.

    1. And both of those are absolutely wonderful priorities! There is a season in life for everything and you are an amazing mom!!

    1. Definitely need to have the “Cush” to be comfortable while working out! Thanks for stopping by!!

  3. I think I would get some new tennis shoes I like the Women’s Reebok Run Supreme 3.0 MT Running Shoes
