The Fieldhouse: Clear Lake, Iowa

fieldhouse

If you’re looking for the newest and greatest food scene in North Iowa, look no further than Fieldhouse in Clear Lake!  With it’s farm to table menu, cozy setting, along with park & lake views, it can’t be beat!  With an every changing menu and farm fresh supplies, this is a unique dining experience that will blow you away!

When you first approach the Fieldhouse, you’ll notice the big windows and building that is brightly lit welcoming you in to the clean and well appointed interior!  The staff is just as warm and welcoming as the decor, which is minimal, but perfect!  And the interior is just the tip of the iceberg!

Appetizers

The night I visited Fieldhouse, I was honored to take a little bit of everything from their menu and what an amazing treat it was!  The staff at the started us off with a Shredded Brussels Sprouts Salad with dried cranberries, chopped pecans, Gorgonzola, Pear, & Crispy Shallots.  It was served with a Molasses Balsamic Vinaigrette on it!  Don’t tell my mom (she think I don’t like brussel sprouts), but it was delicious!  I even went back for seconds on this one!

Next up were the Homemade Potato wedges with homemade ketchup and aioli sauce!  These were delicious and slightly addictive!  Perfectly crisp on the outside and warm and soft on the inside.

Housemade tuna cakes with Lemon Aioli & Micro Radish Citrus Salad were next on the menu!  These definitely had a homemade taste and were not fishy tasting at all!  The lemon aioli sauce just made them pop!  A perfect appetizer to share with someone!

Entrees

The staff then shared with us four options for our main menu!  Starting off, we tasted the Lamb Sirloin Chop with Chimichuri Sauce, Garlic & Green Onion Mashed Potatoes!  I’d never experienced lamb before, so I was pleasantly suprised!  It was tender, full of flavor, and those mashed potatoes were to-die-for!  The lumpy fresh potatoes were full of flavor and light at the same time!  Just the way I like them!

Next up is the Fieldhouse Beef Burger with caramelized onions, 10-year aged white cheddar, red romaine, tomato, house pickles & aioli on a homemade brioche bun!  How delicious this burger is!  All those items stacked up on this burger allows for an entire flavor in your mouth!  When you take a bite, you don’t taste one thing, you taste them all and it is delicious!  The beef is fresh and you can tell so by it’s taste and those buns are baked perfectly!  YUM!

Sushi Sunday

Up next for us to try was the Fieldhouse Roll.  The Fieldhouse has Sushi Sundays (that was the day we visited) and I have to admit that this was the part I was most nervous about.  On Sunday’s The Fieldhouse has a large variety of sushi rolls available to their customers!  (They do offer one non-sushi menu item, so don’t worry if sushi isn’t your thing!)

I was worried about eating raw fish, I was worried about the texture (a lot of reasons I don’t like foods), but my worries were put to rest with this roll!  I took a bite head on and was pleasantly suprised!  It was delicious!  Once I looked at the menu, I realized that this Fieldhouse Roll is comprised of shaved beef, seasonal vegetables, avocado, cucumber, jalapeno and topped with Korean sauce, spicy mayo, honey mayo, scallions, and toasted sesame seeds.  So, I guess I didn’t eat raw fish after all, but this is the kind of Sushi I can get into and would definitely order it again!

Finally, was the Seared Beef Tenderloin with Herbed Garlic Butter served with brussel sprouts, bacon, parmesan, and onions!  Once again, don’t tell my mom, but those brussel sprouts were pretty dang good!  I ate several and was pleasantly suprised, so I give Fieldhouse credit for the way they are prepared!  And that Beef Tenderloin was probably the most tender piece of beef I’ve ever eaten!  It was absolutely delicious and this is something that I wouldn’t hesitate to order when I revisit!

Reaching Out

One of the coolest things about the Fieldhouse isn’t the building, the beautiful interior, the amazing food, or excellent staff, it’s the fact that they partner with One Vision (formerly Opportunity Village) in Clear Lake!   Through One Vision’s programs, they have a greenhouse that residents and people who utilize their services, can grow many vegetables, herbs, etc.  The Fieldhouse works with One Vision to use these items in their meals!  Giving these individuals with disabilities the opportunity to be a part of a food movement in Clear Lake is so amazing and I tip my hat to The Fieldhouse for doing so!

When you’re ready for a new and different food adventure in North Iowa, head to Fieldhouse across from city park in Clear Lake!  Take your appetite and you won’t leave hungry or disappointed, I promise!

PS – My mom reads my blog, so I’m busted now!  😉
