The Hotel Julien Dubuque: Making You Feel Special

T and I recently made an overnight trip to Dubuque and stayed the Hotel Julien Dubuque.  WOW!  The Hotel Julien knows how to make a person feel so special!  Not only do they have spectacular accommodations, but the small things add up to make you fee extra special during your stay!

The Hotel Julien Dubuque has been present in historic downtown Dubuque for over 130 years!  After a $33 million renovation, they are shining brighter than ever!  Between its historic attributes and modern finishes, the Hotel Julien Dubuque is the prime example of a sophisticated hotel!  Not many hotels can claim to be modern and historic, luxurious and comfortable, but yet the Hotel Julien does just that!

Our Room

During our stay, T and I were privileged (or should I say spoiled) enough to stay in one of their King Premiere Suites!  With its full kitchen, living area, separate bedroom, and spacious bathroom, we were living in the lap of luxury!  The rooms are clean, precise, and well furnished!  The granite tops, heavy drapery, and linens make you feel like you are truly escaping from the world!  The views from our hotel room weren’t too shabby either!  How can you  not love looking over the Port of Dubuque while enjoying your surroundings?!

The Little Things at Hotel Julien

One can’t argue that the Hotel Julien is beautiful, but the thing that sticks out in my mind the most after our stay is the small things that the staff does and the hotel provides that makes a person feel so special!  It all started with the plate of cookies on the check-in counter!  We didn’t partake, but they looked delicious and I love little touches like this!  So, what else does the hotel do to make one feel special?

The samples!  Everyone loves a good sample of shampoo and conditioner, but the Hotel Julien goes above and beyond with their sample size of Aveda products!  These high end are a nice touch and make a person feel pampered!  Throw in a little towel art and you know you’re not at home!  😉

The robes!  The robes that were provided in our rooms were spectacular!  Warm, soft, and huge!  Well, maybe they were just huge on me, but I had fun wrapping up in them anyway!  T got a kick out of me wandering around our suite in the extra large robe, but what a fun and awesome way to make me feel special!

The Kleenexes!  Stay with me here!  There is nothing I hate worst than hotel toilet paper and Kleenexes!  This seems to be the one spot that most hotels skimp and buy cheap, thin, and scratchy products!  That is not the route that the Hotel Julien went!  They have Kleenex brand Kleenexes and my nose appreciated this small detail!

Caroline’s Restaurant

For breakfast the morning after our stay, we visited Caroline’s Restaurant in the basement of the Hotel Julien!  It is well decorated, brightly lit (considering it’s in a basement) and delicious!  Those small details that make a person feel special follow throughout the entire hotel and in to the restaurant!  Yes, the food was delicious (hello Bananas Fosters Pancakes), but little touches like the small pitcher of creamer with my coffee give the restaurant a unique quality!  The other thing that sticks out in my mind?  Not only did we get a coffee cup, but also a saucer!  When was the last time you had a saucer with your coffee?!

Caroline's Restaurant

The entire property is simply stunning, but to me it is the small details that make people and their stay at the Hotel Julien extra special!  Have you visited this property?  If you haven’t, we highly recommend it for your next getaway!

Thank you to the Hotel Julien Dubuque for hosting us during our stay!  All thoughts and opinions are 100% honest and my own.  For more details, please see the Disclosure Tab!

  1. Beautiful hotel- the suite! All the details you showed! We are hooked into Marriott so I enjoyed your recent Courtyard post but this Hotel looked lovely. Not sure about the restaurant in the basement but I loved the lobby!

    1. Thank you! It is a true gem that shouldn’t be missed if you’re ever in the area! When you’re in the restaurant, you really don’t feel like you are!!
