It’s Monday again! During the holidays the weekends seem to go faster & faster, right? I guess it’s par for the course! Today, since it’s the holidays I thought I’d focus on something Christmas related! So, I’m sharing with you my five favorite ornaments on our tree! It’s fun to watch ornaments collect through the years and hear the stories that go along with them, isn’t it?  So, here are my 5 favorite ornaments on our tree (in no particular order)!

This ornament was made by one of my great grandmothers!  She was always making things out of yarn and plastic!  This is small mailbox (both my brother and I had one) and on the other side is the year we were born!  I always looked forward to getting this out each year and putting the flag up!  Several years ago (I think I was probably in college) my mom wrote me a little note and stuck it in there!  I’ve never removed it!  I love pulling it out each year and reading it!

This little glass bell is probably the first ornament I bought all on my own!  It’s hard to see because of the glare and the scratches (that’s how old it is), but there is a little Santa in it!  When I was about 8 or 9 our family vacationed in Alexandria Minnesota.  We went to a Christmas store and this was what I selected and paid for with my own money!  It was my souvenir of the trip and I love it still.  I love that it represents working hard for your money and spending it wisely!  A valuable lesson my parents were always teaching me!

These ornaments were my grandparents!  When I was little their tree was always and only decorated with antique glass ornaments!  I can only imagine that these were around when my mom and her brothers were growing up!  My grandparents have both been gone for several years now and I miss them so much every year because I always loved Christmas at their home, but I love that I have these and there is a little bit of them in my holidays!

2010 was the first year that I was in the boys’ lives for Christmas!  They were so little and it seems like such a long time ago and yet, just like yesterday!  My SIL started making these photo ornaments for me that year and I’m so glad she did!  I have one for all 6 Christmases that we’ve been together!  I will continue to have her make these for me until the boys are old and gray!  Some day that’s all my tree will be decorated with and I look forward to that day!  My heart swells when I look at these ornaments and it makes me want to cry because time is going so fast!  We must treasure these days!

Last, but certainly not least!  This ornament was given to T and I the year we were married!  Our first married Christmas together, but I love it more so because of the love it symbolizes and the family and life we’ve developed together!  It’s more amazing than anything I could have ever dreamed of!

Do you have favorite Christmas ornaments?  What are they?  I’d love to read about them, so feel free to share in the comments!  It’s amazing how our lives change and different things become important to us!  Realizing that is all part of Learning As I Go!

  1. Great memories with each ornament. We finally had a big enough tree this year to fit all of our special ornaments. Our family favorites are the kids first Christmas ornaments and our honeymoon ornaments.
