Random Thoughts on Life

I have to be honest with you, life has been crazy! I know we can all say that at some point, but this week has been incredibly crazy in my world. Football games, homecoming events, North Iowa Blogger workshops, and more have filled our calendar. So, as much as I would like to say how inspired I’ve been to write lately…I haven’t. So, now you’re getting random thoughts on life!

  1. Homecoming is more exhausting as a parent – I loved homecoming when I was in high school.  I was a cheerleader and so it was always a jam-packed week of events and celebrating, but it was so fun!  Fast forward 15 years and it’s downright exhausting as a parent.  Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed watching R participate in events like After-Shave Volleyball and the football games, but it seemed we had something every night last week.  I’m glad it’s only once a year!
  2. the North Iowa Bloggers rock!  Have I ever told you how much I love this group of humans?  I got to gather with some of them this past Wednesday night for a work session.  It’s so fantastic to have a group surrounding me that is loving, supportive, and energizes me when I need it!
  3. Marriage is Worth It!  I know that I am not the only woman out there that knows that some days…well, marriage is just work.  You can’t seem to agree on anything and are on each others nerves…but, other textgram_1443371277days…well, those are the days when you still get butterflies in your stomach when he smiles at you.  You still get giddy at the idea of date-night and those feelings are so amazing that it makes the other days, totally worth it.
  4. Sometimes you just have to let go!  There are times in life, especially as a wife & step-mother, that I have to just let go.  Let go of the fact that our home office is a complete and udder disaster.  Let go of the fact of failure because my intentions of meal planning haven’t been executed like I wished.  Let go of the fact that I should be working on the long to do list, but am instead sitting and watching TV or blogging.  We don’t have to be perfect and we don’t to have it together all of the time.  It’s ok.  It’s hard to be ok with this and hard to fully grasp sometimes, but I’m trying!
  5. My step-sons are the greatest!  While this isn’t anything new, it’s amazing how every day and every week I love them more and am more and more proud of them the older they get.  On Friday they were both in the homecoming parade and as I spotted the youngest one, I started crying.  I don’t mean a few tears leaked out…I mean full on crying!  The wave of emotion of love and pride that swept over me was more than I could handle.  They are truly the greatest blessings in my life and I hope they know how much I love them!!

So…there you go.  5 random thoughts about my life right now and where things are.  Thanks for being patient with me while I struggle to have the time to write, or even have the time to allow my brain to flow with thoughts!  On the upside…I did some baking this morning and a great new fall recipe is coming soon!

And don’t forget to Comment for A Cause!  There’s still a few days left to help Franklin County Youth for Christ!

  1. Random thoughts always rock! I am so glad that you are happy and have surrounded yourself with so many awesome people. And I must agree, the North Iowa Bloggers are a lot of fun and a terrific resource to have here in North Iowa.

  2. I know it is busy and chaotic but it is all worth it. I know you know that! When I think back on those days when the boys were in high school it is kind of a blur but a fun blur nonetheless! Hope this week is a bit calmer. And btw–random posts rock in my opinion.

    1. Aw, thanks! I do know it is the greatest and I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Thank you for reading my chaotic post!

  3. I love this, Katy! Transparent, honest, and full of love for your boys. Can we get together soon please because I feel it’s ridiculous we haven’t yet!! 🙂

  4. Looking forward to your recipes! Such a busy fall. Sounds like you’re making lots of good memories. You juggle so many roles.

    1. Making memories is definitely what we’re doing and I wouldn’t trade any of the busy (especially being involved with the boys’ lives) for anything!
